Merus Power Oyj: Merus Power built its own energy storage facility in Lempäälä, Finland: mainstay for developing and testing new technology
Merus Power Plc, Press release, March 25, 2025 at 1:00 pm EET
Merus Power has built its own 1 MW / 1 MWh energy storage for product development and testing. The energy storage facility is in Lempäälä, Finland, and became operational on March 25, 2025. The facility will use the company's Merus® MERUSCOPE™ trading system. These significant investments in product development will further strengthen the company's position as a pioneer of the energy storage market in Finland. The energy storage facility operates in the wholesale electricity market and in Fingrid's frequency reserve market, creating additional income. The energy storage facility creates possibilities for Merus Power to develop new technologies and test them in a bricks-and-mortar-establishment.
Significant investment in product development and market leadership
An energy storage facility manufactured and owned by the company itself supports the program and product development of key components of the Merus® ESS -technology, such as its inverter technology (Merus® PCS) and trading and remote control system (Merus® MERUSCOPE™). In its own energy storage, Merus Power can test new technologies and software and optimize the energy storage to function in the best possible way also in the future electricity market. With product development, the company can further enhance the optimization capability of its trading system, minimize the wear and tear of the accumulator set and maximize the return on investment.
"Having our own energy storage facility gives us a unique opportunity to test and develop new technologies in an authentic use environment. It also helps us to optimize the operation of our systems and further deepen our understanding of the wear and tear of accumulator sets. We will take full advantage of our energy storage to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of our innovations," says Jyri Öörni, Chief Technology Officer at Merus Power.
The strategically placed energy storage facility is located near two energy storage facilities delivered by Merus Power, another one in construction and the company's own production facility and product development unit. This enables the use of the energy storage in connection with customer visits, in personnel training and in partner onboarding.
Used by our customers and partners
"This investment is not only a step forward in the development of technologies and services - it is also strong evidence of our commitment to market leadership in the energy storage market and to serving our customers now and in the future. For example, the continuous optimization of our trading service gives our customers access to real-time benefits and strengthens their competitiveness," says Kari Tuomala, CEO of Merus Power. "The new energy storage facility allows us to be closer to our customers and the needs of the market."
Merus Power's energy storage facility is a significant investment in the development of future energy solutions and in maintaining a pioneering position in the industry.
