NCC to perform foundation work for double-track project in Bergslagen

NCC

NCC's foundation engineering company Hercules has been commissioned by Infrakraft to perform extensive foundation work for the Swedish Transport Administration's new double-track rail line for the Hallsberg-Stenkumla section. The order value is approximately SEK 210 million.

The assignment will encompass extensive piling and sheet pile driving along the Hallsberg-Stenkumla section. The section is 14 kilometers long and involves work in complicated ground conditions, several bridges and a 2.4-kilometer-long tunnel.

"The ground conditions along parts of the section are difficult, which is an important reason why we have chosen to work with Hercules Grundläggning. In addition to having the necessary specialist expertise, it also has the size to handle such extensive foundation engineering work. Furthermore, we have great confidence in Hercules due to our long and solid relationship with the company," says Mats Lindahl, Division Manager at Infrakraft.

The project is part of the Swedish Transport Administration's investment in building a double-track rail line between Hallsberg and Degerön. The 50-kilometer section of railway from Hallsberg to Degerön is part of the Godsstråket freight line through Bergslagen and plays a key role in freight transportation within Sweden and onward into Europe.

"We are looking forward to working on such a critical railway project where, for example, our specialist piling expertise will come into its own. We manufacture our own concrete piles, which ensures an efficient process and gives us the high quality we demand," says Håkan Hakeröd, Head of Hercules Grundläggning, NCC Infrastructure.

Work will commence in the spring and is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2026. The order will be registered in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the first quarter of 2025 and the order value is approximately SEK 210 million.
